Duties And Responsibilities & Minimum Requirements: The Assistant Dean of Summer and Special Programs assists the Associate Dean in two areas of growth in the School of Continuing Studies, the Summer School and Special Programs. As such, the Assistant Dean, has a leadership position in Summer and Special Programs in academic programming. In the Summer School, the Assistant Dean is responsible for planning, managing, organizing, delegating and overseeing all academic and administrative responsibilities and functions necessary for the smooth operation of the Summer School. Responsibilities include the development of a student centered schedule in the Summer that will serve Georgetown and Non-Georgetown students. The Assistant Dean advises and consults with faculty members and department chairs to ensure a properly developed course schedule that coheres academically across three summer sessions. Additionally, the Assistant Dean conducts faculty searches for outside faculty to teach in Summer School; counsels and enforces the Georgetown University Academic Bulletin; troubleshoots student academic issues and problems; reconciles the department’s monthly Cost Center Reports; sets faculty salaries in consultation with the Provost’s office, maintains financial records; and works closely with academic departments and the marketing staff at SCS to ensure the proper positioning of the Summer School and Special programs. In Special Programs, the Assistant Dean is responsible for working with faculty on the academic content and program development of all credit and non-credit programs; conducts faculty searches; and hires and contracts all faculty. Additionally, in the Semester in Washington Program, the Assistant Dean works directly with Georgetown University departments to conduct faculty searches for the Spring Semester and Summer Sessions, and hires all faculty in the program. This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree with some Master’s Degree work and a minimum of five years academic administrative experience in an institution of higher education. Knowledge of Georgetown University systems, course offerings, academic departments, academic requirements, the academic bulletin, policies and procedures is highly desirable. Experience using various database systems and program analytics required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite programs is also required. Report preparation including data recovery and analysis and assessment analysis.
