Duties And Responsibilities & Minimum Requirements: This position involves the research and analysis of emerging incidents of civil conflict and violence. The Analyst will work independently and as part of a group on a region or area of responsibility. He/She will study incidents of civil violence using open source media and provide summaries and reports on emerging incidents of civil violence. The Analyst will perform media, economic, and sociopolitical surveillance of a region in which the Analyst has cultural and linguistic knowledge. The Analyst is expected to assist the Civil Violence team in testing and designing new methodologies and extending the capacity of Project Argus. In this task, the Analyst will draw on his/her knowledge of cultural, economic and linguistic trends in the South Asia region. Expertise in Pakistan is required, including a detailed knowledge of regional societal trends, including economics, sociology, demography, and conflict. The analyst must have native language proficiency in English and Urdu. The analyst will be required to attend an internal training program, which will provide him/her with the necessary skills to utilize software tools, follow standard operating procedures and understand the surveillance methodology at the analyst level. A master’s degree or equivalent training is required, preferably in political science or foreign policy. Excellent writing skills, communication skills, and self-motivation are required. The Imaging Science and Information Systems (ISIS) Center is a medical research and development organization at Georgetown University Medical Center that specializes in information and imaging technology for personal healthcare, public healthcare and national bio-security. The Division of Integrated Biodefense (DIB), a division of the ISIS Center, is comprised of a multidisciplinary group that includes individuals with public health, epidemiology, medicine, information systems and technology, geography, foreign language, applied mathematics, policy science, and other backgrounds. The DIB Operations Center tracks global news media reports on a range of infectious disease threats to the human, animal, and plant world.
