Course Description:

Management of even relatively short projects can quickly overwhelm the project manager with tracking detail. Additional complexity is introduced whenever the project plan must accommodate changes or when resources must be shared with other managers. Fortunately, project management software is available to perform the calculations, generate reports, notify the manager of over-scheduled resources, and keep records of changes and their effects on budget and schedule. This course provides participants with a hands-on approach to learning one of the more popular computer based program management tools available, Microsoft Project 2003©. Participants will gain understanding of computer based tools by completing the project planning, managing, and controlling phases of project management in a computer supplied classroom.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Create a project plan file and enter task information.
  • Create a work breakdown structure by organizing tasks and setting task relationships and dependencies.
  • Define and assign project resources.
  • Complete the project plan file and set a baseline
  • Exchange project plan data with other applications.
  • Update a project plan.
  • Create custom reports.
  • Re-use existing project plan information.

Course Prerequisites:

Project Management Fundamentals or permission of the instructor.
