Paul Almeida, Ph.D.

Associate Professor of Strategy and International Business, McDonough School of Business, Georgetown University

Paul Almeida is an Associate Professor and Dean's Research Fellow at the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University. Professor Almeida's expertise is in the area of strategic management, with a focus on technology and international business. His research focuses on the study of innovation and knowledge and its relationship to the competitiveness of firms, high technology regions and countries. Articles published in 2003 include "Learning by Hiring: When is Mobility Useful?" and "Overcoming Local Search through Alliances and Mobility" both in Management Science and "External Knowledge and MNC Subsidiary Innovation" in the Strategic Management Journal. His research has appeared in several other journals and scholarly books. He is currently co-writing a volume on "Managing Knowledge in the 21st Century". He is on the editorial board of the International Journal of Networks and Virtual Organizations and is a regular reviewer for over 10 other scholarly journals. Professor Almeida is a member and active contributor to the Academy of Management, Academy of International Business and Strategic Management Society.

Professor Almeida currently teaches Executives and MBAs at Georgetown in the areas of technology and knowledge management, international business and strategy. He has previously taught multinational management at The Wharton School. He has been awarded the Outstanding Teacher Award for International Executive MBA program, Joseph F. Le Moine Award for Graduate and Undergraduate Teaching Excellence, Best Professor Award for Executive Programs at Georgetown University, and was listed as one of the Best Business Professors by Business Week magazine.

An important focus of Professor Almeida's professional life is in introducing and applying the latest business ideas, frameworks and tools to professional organizations. He achieves this through consulting, executive education and corporate seminars with organizations including Microsoft, Gucci, IBM, AT&T, Bechtel, BAE Systems, Kimberley Clarke, ENI, the World Bank, NPR, the US Chamber of Commerce, and the Department of Agriculture.
