Ira Chaleff
Ira Chaleff is the founder and president of Executive Coaching & Consulting Associates in Washington, DC. and a principal in the Institute for Business Technology, a worldwide provider of workload management training.
Ira is also Chairman of the Board of the Congressional Management Foundation, a non-partisan organization providing management studies, training, consulting and coaching to Members of Congress and their staffs.
The first edition of his book The Courageous Follower: Standing Up To and For Our Leaders, was published in 1995 by Berrett-Koehler and has been translated into several languages and produced as an award winning training video.
The 2003 second edition was expanded to address the dynamics of leaders fostering courageous followership and was awarded the silver medal in the business book category by the Independent Book Publishers’ magazine.
Ira has conducted training on Leader-Follower relationships for many agencies and institutions including the Office of Personnel Management, The Brookings Institute, The Department of Interior University, NASA, The Army War College, HHS, Department of Agriculture, The Society of American Military Engineers, The Federal Consulting Group and others as well as private sector companies such as Ernst & Young and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Ira co-hosted the first national conference on Followership held last year at Claremont University in conjunction with the Drucker-Ito Graduate School of Management and the Kravis Leadership Institute at McKenna College. He is the co-editor of the book resulting from the conference on The Art of Followership that will be published later this year as part of the Warren Bennis Leadership Series by Jossey Bass.
The Courageous Follower has found its way into a wide range of academic and professional training programs including many of the Leadership Development programs conducted by California Law Enforcement Agencies, and the first course on Followership being taught at the JFK School of Government at Harvard.
Ira is adjunct faculty at Georgetown University and conducts Courageous Follower workshops at other universities in the Washington, DC area.
