Karen Curnow, MBA, MCC
Karen Curnow has provided cultural diversity, leadership development and team building services through facilitation, coaching, and training since 1980. Having worked and lived in France, Turkey, Kenya, Austria, and New York prior to her work in the D.C. area, Ms. Curnow has served both business and government as executive coach, consultant, university professor, training manager, and writer/reporter for an international magazine.
Clients Karen has served include: Turner Broadcasting, EDS, Boeing, Discovery Communications, Inc., VISA International/Inovant, Crown Central Petroleum, Exxon, Lucent Technologies, Mars, Inc., Shepell-fgi, the Department of State, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the Department of Homeland Security, the US Department of Health and Human Services, George Mason University, Georgetown University, and many other corporate, university, and government organizations, including many in the intelligence community. Karen works with teams as well as executives at the CEO, President, Vice President, Director, and mid-management levels. Karen holds a security clearance at the TS/SCI level.
Karen’s publications focus on coaching, leadership, international management/living, and workplace diversity. Among her publications are “Differences and Discourses: Coaching across Cultures” (in The International Journal of Coaching in Organizations, Notes from a Traveling Childhood (book on the impact of international mobility on children), chapter activities in Tools and Activities for a Diverse Work Force, “Gender at Work” (cover article for Public Management magazine on the impact of gender on workplace communication), and a variety of magazine articles on international management.
Karen earned her M.B.A. in International Management and Marketing from U.S. International University and her B.S. in Business Administration and French at Houghton College and at the Sorbonne/University of Paris. Karen received her certification in Coaching and Organizational Learning from The Newfield Network-USA and George Mason University. She is currently national program manager and faculty member for Newfield and has been a facilitator for the acclaimed Healing the Heart of Diversity retreat series. Karen’s self- and multi-rater assessment certifications include: the Center for Creative Leadership’s Benchmarks 360 instrument, CCL’s SkillScope, the MBTI, Margerison-McCann Team Management Systems profiles, emotional intelligence assessments, and the entire range of Inscape profiles.
