Mark L. James, J.D., LL.M.

The author or co-author of ten books on estate planning, Mark L. James is an of counsel attorney with Hartman, Underhill & Brubaker LLP, a Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, law firm. He is a graduate of Grove City College. He received his M.B.A. from Michigan State University. His law degree was earned from the Regent University School of Law in Virginia Beach, Virginia (where he has served as a member of the Board of Trustees and is an adjunct Professor of Law). He continued his law studies at the College of William and Mary, Marshall-Wythe School of Law, graduating with a Master of Laws in Taxation (LL.M.). Currently, Mr. James is a candidate in the Executive Masters in Leadership program at Georgetown University. Prior to law school, Mr. James was a planned giving officer with an international nonprofit where he raised millions of dollars in deferred gifts using charitable estate planning strategies. His law practice is concentrated in the areas of estate planning, estate and trust administration and business law.

Mr. James’ professional affiliations include membership in the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the Christian Legal Society and the National Committee on Planned Giving. Mr. James lectures frequently on subjects within his area of expertise for a variety of professional and civic organizations including financial and estate planning professionals, nonprofit organizations, colleges and retirement communities.
