DATELINE WASHINGTON: The New World of Journalism is an exciting eight-day workshop designed to introduce students to the changing media landscape in the news-rich environment of Washington, D.C.  Armed with a video Flip camera like those the professionals use for Web videos, you will immediately establish yourselves in an online environment and begin developing your journalistic "voices." 

In break-out sessions, you'll learn how to conduct basic interviews with news sources, hone your research and writing skills, and practice using a teleprompter in a state-of-the-art broadcast booth.  Students will take a field trip to the Newseum--the nation's foremost interactive museum of journalism.  There, you'll learn about the rich history of news reporting--from the earliest days of newspapers to the latest in multimedia tools.  You'll hear from legendary journalists, such as White House Correspondent and Dean of the White House Press Corps Helen Thomas, whose work is highlighted there. 

You'll meet an award-winning CBS News war correspondent, debate ethical issues with the National Public Radio ombudsman, and interact with the up-and-coming online journalists and bloggers who are shaking things up in the Washington media world.  You'll return home with a stronger foundation of journalistic skills and values, as well as a better understanding of new digital media techniques.


2010 Tuition:
$1,900 includes tuition, room, and board.
