Rosalie Kelly on the Hill

As a whole the trip was a great experience for me, not many people I know can say they have been to both press galleries and watched both the House and Senate hearings. I thought the press galleries were really interesting because the media plays such an important role in society and can easily make or break politicians. It was interesting to experience the House hearings, because I didn’t realize that members discuss things like funding for mule museums. The Capitol Building was a great historical American site to see and was beautifully furnished. I was also surprised at the size of both the floors, which appear much larger and intimidating on television. It was also great to hear Mr. Gallegos talk about his experiences on the job; the hours without sleep covering the interesting events that take place on the House Floor. For Mr. Gallegos his job gives him the opportunity to never stop learning and is like "getting paid to go to school." Our trip left me considering what life would be like reporting from "The Hill," intrigued and wondering more about the inner workings of journalism. The experience was something I was inspired by and sure to remember.
