Will Stevens - Press Galleries Review

On a hot, humid day in Washington, the last thing I would have wanted to do was put on dress attire and commute across the steamy town to destination after destination. However, the events that followed myself pulling my Velcro-stuck hands from the overhead bar on the train, and stepping off onto Constitution Avenue would be part of a visit that I would remember for a very long time.
After slipping through the side entrance, which is only accessible to important personnel, we immediately made our way up to a place I had not had been given the opportunity to see in my three prior visits to the capital: the press gallery. Walking into the gallery, and seeing the finely attired journalists typing away soundlessly made me feel a one, single euphoria. I knew that this would be something that I would want to be a part of some time in my life. After learning about how the press covers senate and house, we were given a VIP-like tour of the rotunda. I learned that apparently the history of the United States ended with the birth of aviation, which to me signifies either that our end will come at the hand of an air attack, or that we are flying headfirst into disaster.
Overall, it was the best visit to the Capitol that I had even been a part of, and to top it off, John Kerry and Jim Webb, two of the most popular senators, were only feet away from me. Someday, I’ll tell my kids I saw them in political action.
