Zack Perskin on Capitol Hill
The United States Capitol Building brings people to the exact center of America’s city and government. Several different elements of this important American building put a visitor in awe and amazement. As John Kerry passed one could feel connected with the presidency right away. Just the Massachusetts’ senator’s height is amazing to a short person, but the fact that Kerry could have been president of these United States is amazing.
A venture to the Capitol does not only allow a person to see the men and women that make the most influential decisions in our government, but allows one to see the process of how the congress works and interacts with the media. Once one walks into the small rooms of the Capitol that person sees how big television media makes the rooms of the capital to be. A person would think that the American capital would have vast amounts of space for everything that goes on in that building, but the building is getting smaller and smaller as Congress is getting bigger and bigger. Not only is the size of the building amazing, but also this building is basically the center of the District of Columbia. Being the center of the most important city in America puts the Capitol in extreme danger, especially after 9/11. The placement of this building provides the city of Washington to be built around it, and the government as well. The building’s architecture provides for easy access to any part of the building if that person belongs to the congress. Also having one hundred statues of people from every state represents that are country is unified and will always is the United States. These statues show that our founding members, even though they did not all have the best intentions, started a country that knows how to speak her mind.
