Rough Arrival

Kelly Bailiff and her mother stood at the windows of
John F. Kennedy airport and watched the plane
they were supposed to be on leave without
them for Washington, DC.
They desperately searched for another available flight,
but only ended up being disappointed. After a series
of phone calls and a stressful taxi ride, they ended up
at Penn Station and caught the 9:30PM train to Washington DC.
Kelly finally arrived on the campus of Georgetown University
for its Summer Journalism Workshop 3 hours after she left
her New York City vacation.
"It was after midnight and we had difficulty finding anyone
still awake to direct us to my Village C dorm," said Kelly.
After searching for someone to tell them directions,
a public safety officer showed her where to go. Hoping not
to disturb her roommate, Kelly quietly entered the dorm.
After a long day, Kelly chatted with her roommate
and finally got some rest.

Not Your Average Three Weeks in the District...

During the three week course, students will tour the House Press Gallery, cover a congressional hearing, attend a Pentagon press briefing, interview the First Lady's Press Secretary, visit the photography department of National Geographic magazine, tour a newsroom, and interview journalists. As they experience the relationship between journalism and politics in the nation's capital firsthand, the students will develop stories on teen voting in light of the 2008 election.
