To be considered for admission into the Doctor of Liberal Studies Program at Georgetown University, you must submit the following items (please note that the Georgetown University Liberal Studies Program does not require the GRE):

  1. A completed application form.
  2. A $50 application fee.
    Those filling out the online application should submit payment online using a major credit card. Those submitting a print application should include a check or money order made payable to Georgetown University.
  3. Two writing samples.
    Applicants must provide two academic papers, preferably from different disciplines. The applicant’s name and the degree for which the paper was written must be written clearly on the first page of each paper. Other examples of writing may be substituted with approval from Dr. Phyllis O’Callaghan, Director of the Liberal Studies Program (ocallagp@georgetown.edu).
  4. Statement of purpose.
    Please write a four-to-five page (double-spaced and typewritten) essay indicating why you are seeking the Doctor of Liberal Arts degree and what your anticipated area(s) of study will be.
  5. Three completed recommendation forms.
    Recommendation forms should be completed by former teachers or professional associates capable of appraising your present ability to pursue independent graduate work. Applicants using the Online Application Manager will have the opportunity to send an online recommendation form to potential recommenders via email. Those submitting a print application should include completed recommendation forms in their application packet. Print recommendation forms must be submitted in a sealed envelope that has been signed across the flap by the person who completed the form.
  6. Official transcript(s).
    Original, official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions previously attended should be mailed to the School of Continuing Studies Admissions Office. Please note that transcripts written in a language other than English must be accompanied by an official translation.

International Students
Upon admission into the program, international students will be asked to submit a completed immigration questionnaire to the Office of International Programs (OIP). The questionnaire can be found at http://oip.georgetown.edu/isss/vsq.htm. Please note that the Doctor of Liberal Studies degree is a part-time program. Students holding or applying for F-1 or J-1 visa status may not be able to apply for this program as Georgetown University cannot issue a certificate of eligibility (I-20) for this program.
