To be considered for admission into the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies Program at Georgetown University, you must
submit the following items (please note that the Georgetown University Liberal Studies Program does not require the GRE):
- A completed application form.
- A $35 application fee.
Those filling out the online application should submit payment online using a major credit card.
Those submitting a print application should include a check made payable to Georgetown University.
- Two essays.
a.Write an essay (about 3 pages typewritten, and double-spaced) in which you describe what you have been doing since you were last a full-time student. Please be sure to describe two personal or professional achievements in your life and explain why you wish to pursue a degree in Liberal Studies.
b. Using a book of your choice, write an essay (about 5 pages typewritten, and double-spaced) in which you describe the author’s central argument, proposal, or theme. Please be sure to describe how this is developed in the book as well as any conclusions you may have reached.
- Two completed recommendation forms.
Recommendation forms should be completed by anyone capable of appraising your present ability. Applicants
using the Online Application Manager will have the opportunity to send an online recommendation form to potential
recommenders via email. Those submitting a print application should include completed recommendation forms in their
application packet. Print recommendation forms must be submitted in a sealed envelope that has been signed across the
flap by the person who completed the form.
- Official transcript(s).
Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions previously attended should be mailed to the
School of Continuing Studies Admissions Office. Please note that transcripts written in a language other than English
must be accompanied by an official translation.
International Students
International students must submit a completed immigration questionnaire. The questionnaire can be found at

International students must obtain and submit, at their own expense, an evaluation of their transcripts by World
Education Services or another recognized international evaluation service recommended by the Council of Postsecondary
Accreditation or the U.S. Department of Education Office of Postsecondary Education.
Please note that students holding or applying for F-1 or J-1 student status may not apply to this part-time degree
program.
Non-Native English Speakers
Applicants for whom English is a second language must also submit a printed Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
score report. A TOEFL score of 600 is required (250 or higher for the computer-based test or 100 iBT). Please use institution code number 5986.
