To be considered for admission into the Master of Arts in Professional Studies or Advanced Professional Certificate programs at Georgetown University, you must submit the following items (please note that the Georgetown University MPS Program does not require the GRE). In addition to the required materials listed below, any information you can produce that shows your dedication to, or motivation for working in the Journalism or Public Relations industry will be used to evaluate your application.

1. Completed application form.

2. $35 application fee.
Those filling out the online application should submit payment online using a major credit card. Those submitting a print application should include a check made payable to Georgetown University.

3. Personal statement.
Write an essay that explains why you are interested in getting your master’s degree or advanced professional certificate with a concentration in journalism or public relations/corporate communications.

4. Resume.

5. Portfolio (optional).
All applicants are encouraged to send in a collection of material describing and documenting their prior work and achievements. For the journalism concentration, please submit published writing, links to online work, or broadcast tapes. For the public relations/corporate communications concentration, please submit writing samples such as press releases, communication plans and opinion editorials.

6. Two letters of recommendation.
Recommendation letters should be submitted by anyone capable of appraising your present ability. Applicants using the Online Application Manager will have the opportunity to request letters from potential recommenders, who will in turn be able to submit their letter of recommendation using the Application Manager. Those submitting a print application should submit recommendation letters as part of their application packet. Please note that recommendation letters will only be accepted in a sealed envelope that has been signed across the flap by the author.

7. Official transcript(s).
Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions previously attended should be mailed to the School of Continuing Studies Admissions Office. Please note that transcripts written in a language other than English must be accompanied by an official translation.

International Students

International students must obtain and submit, at their own expense, an evaluation of their transcripts by World Education Services or another recognized international evaluation service recommended by the Council of Postsecondary Accreditation or the U.S. Department of Education Office of Postsecondary Education.

Non-Native English Speakers
Applicants for whom English is a second language must also submit a printed Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score report. A TOEFL score of 600 is required (250 or higher for the computer-based test or 100 iBT). Please use institution code number 5986.
