July 27 - August 10, 2008

The global warming debate has pushed all of us to “think globally” and focus on our collective responsibility to protect Earth’s natural resources.  This two-week program highlights the global issues, but at the same time immerses you, at times literally, in the spirit of “acting locally,” using the Anacostia River as a laboratory.  Georgetown partners with the Earth Conservation Corps to give you the opportunity to study firsthand the threats to a delicate tidal wetland ecosystem— invasive species, illegal pollution, urbanization, and agriculture— and then participate in restoration activities. Guest lecturers from the Environmental Protection Agency, National Park Service , foundations, and advocacy organizations offer their perspectives on all sides of important environmental topics. You’ll come away with a deeper understanding of the issues and clearer ideas of what can be done about them.
