Anthony Clark Arend
Professor; Director, Institute for International Law & Politics

Dr. Anthony Arend, Professor of Government and Foreign Service at Georgetown University, is proud to return as the Academic Director for the 2008 International Relations Program. For over twenty years, Dr. Arend has brought his energy, enthusiasm, and knowledge to this exciting and intellectually stimulating summer program.

In addition to his dedicated role as Academic Director for the International Relations Summer Program, Dr. Arend also serves as both Director of the Institute for International Law & Politics at Georgetown and an adjunct professor of law at the Georgetown University Law Center. Prior to coming to Georgetown, he held the position of Senior Fellow at the Center for National Security Law at the University of Virginia School of Law. He has also worked as an Articles Editor for the Virginia Journal of International Law.

Dr. Arend earned a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Foreign Affairs from the Woodrow Wilson Department of Government and Foreign Affairs at the University of Virginia. He received a B.S.F.S., magna cum laude, from the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.

Dr. Arend's teaching interests are focused in the areas of international law, international organization, international relations, international legal philosophy, and constitutional law of United States foreign relations.
