General Information

Georgetown University’s Semester in Washington Program (SWP) offers undergraduate students a unique opportunity to spend an exciting semester as an intern in the nation’s capital, while living and studying on the campus of one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the United States. Students gain valuable practical work experience to be competitive in today’s job market. At the same time, students enrich their academic credentials with undergraduate credits from Georgetown University.

The Semester in Washington Program at Georgetown University is a small, selective, experiential program consistent with the University’s high academic standards. Overall program size is limited to ensure small classes, personal attention, and academic rigor.

Deadlines
Program and scholarship applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Eligibility
Undergraduate students and some graduate students in good standing will be considered for acceptance.

Students admitted into the Semester in Washington Summer Program are automatically admitted into Georgetown University’s Summer School.

Acceptance to the Semester in Washington Program does not constitute or imply acceptance as a degree candidate in any school or division of Georgetown University.

Applications
Only complete application packages will be reviewed. For consideration, please submit: a completed application form; the application fee; updated resume or CV; current, official transcript(s); one letter of recommendation; a one-page essay. Courses
In the spring semester, students can earn a total of 15 credits: 6 credits for the academic seminar, 3 credits for the internship and accompanying internship class, and 3 credits for the research seminar. Students may earn an additional 3 credits by taking an elective course.

In the summer term, students can earn a total of 6 credits: 3 credits for the internship and accompanying academic seminar on Law: Ethics and Leadership; and an additional 3 credits by taking the guided independent Research Seminar or by taking an elective summer course.

Costs
Tuition - $965.00 per credit; Application Fee - $50.00; Books and Personal Expenses, including transportation, metro cards, site visits, and dining out.

Academic Life and Resources
Students admitted into the Semester in Washington Program are entitled to Georgetown University facilities and resources. Students have access to numerous campus resources, including the Joseph Mark Lauinger Memorial Library, the Language Learning Technology Center, University Information Services, athletic facilities at the Yates Field House, and the Career Education Center. The Academic Resource Center provides accommodations in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Academic Regulations and Policies
All students admitted to Georgetown University’s Semester in Washington Program follow the guidelines set forth by Georgetown University for all undergraduate students as well as for Summer School students. Students must also abide by the Honor Council Code.

NetID and Identification Card
Each student will be assigned a NetID and given instructions on how to activate it and use Student Access+. Once registered, students should obtain an identification card (GOCard) from the GOCard office in Darnall Hall, Room 3, adjacent to the Student Health Center. The GOCard should be carried at all times; it will be required for admission to the library and other University facilities.

Georgetown University Transcripts
Transcripts of academic records may be obtained through the Office of the University Registrar, G-01 White-Gravenor Building, (202) 687-4020. Students pay a one-time transcript request fee of $12.00 the first semester they register.

Immunization Requirements
All students under age 26 attending school are required by D.C. Law 3-20 to present evidence of immunization against the following diseases: Poliomyelitis, Measles, Rubella (German Measles), Diphtheria, Mumps, and Tetanus. Also, the District of Columbia requires all new students, regardless of age, to complete the Tuberculosis form, Part III, p. 2. International Students
All applicants whose native language is not English or who have not attended an English-speaking undergraduate institution must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and submit their TOEFL scores. The University requires a score of 550 or above on the written examination or a score of at least 213 on the computer-based examination. Please use institution code number 5986.

Please note that all Semester in Washington Program F-1 visa holders must maintain a minimum of 6 credits in the summer and a minimum of 12 credits in the spring semester.

International students will receive additional information upon admission.
