Founding
The Career Development Center for Graduate Programs was made possible by a generous gift to the School of Foreign Service from Harry J. Smith, Jr. in honor of Anne Cavanaugh Smith.
Established in 1997, the Career Development Center provides a variety of services to students and alumni from the six graduate programs of the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service. The School's undergraduate students are served by the MBNA Career Education Center.
Purpose
The purpose of the Career Development Center is to facilitate graduate students’ transitions from academia to the world of work. This is done through:
» Group seminars and workshops designed to orient students to contemporary job search techniques.
» One-on-one counseling that emphasizes assessment of skills, interests and values supporting specified job objectives.
» Campus presentations and events to augment and enlarge students’ contact with organizations in international affairs.
» Maintenance of access to physical and electronic resources enabling students to conduct effective job searches.
» Responding to the career development needs of alumni(ae)
from the six graduate programs at the School of Foreign Service.
Services
The center's staff provide counseling, organize workshops and recruitment events, publish a weekly newsletter, manage a bulletin board of current job and internship listings and maintain a library of career development resources
Housed in new offices in the Intercultural Center, the Career Development Center provides students with access to computers, fax machines, and a variety of other resources to assist them in their career planning.
