The BMW Center aims to train the next generation of transatlantic leaders. Based on their education and training, graduates of the MAGES program are well poised to excel in a variety of career fields. Graduates are currently working and performing research in exciting fields across the United States and in international locations such as Belgium, Canada, Cyprus, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Kenya, Kosovo, the Netherlands, Peru, Switzerland, Taiwan, and the UK.
Government / Intergovernmental Organizations
Whether in the U.S. Government, foreign governments or the intergovernmental sphere, our graduates are pursuing a variety of activities. Graduates have begun their careers in the U.S. Foreign Service in locations such as Nigeria, Bosnia, and Pakistan. Several graduates are involved in the intelligence community, while others are working with foreign disaster assistance or democratization efforts with USAID, or managing international trade issues as part of the U.S. Department of Commerce. We have graduates in agencies ranging from the U.S. Department of State to NASA.
Many of our graduates have gained these positions through the Presidential Management Fellowship (PMF) Program. This program, which is administered through graduate school departments and the SFS Career Development Center, gives successful candidates an advantage in federal government hiring and pay structures. Graduates also pursue careers in state and local governments, such as the Banking Department of the State of New York or the Environmental Services Department of the City of San Diego.
In addition to working in U.S. governmental systems, our graduates without U.S. citizenship have gone on to careers in the governments of their home countries, such as the Foreign Ministry of Taiwan, the Embassy of the Republic of Iceland, or the Latvian Development Agency. Graduates have also made an impact in the field of intergovernmental organizations, such as the World Bank, the Trade Delegation of the European Commission, and the OSCE Mission to the Republic of Croatia.
International Affairs/Non-Profit Organizations
Just as our students have a wide range of interests, our graduates pursue a wide range of careers. MAGES graduates in this sector have worked for organizations such as the Council on Foreign Relations, The Brookings Institution, and the UN Children's Fund.
Business/Finance/Law
Careers in business and law are not only open to MBA's and JD's. We have a Chief Financial Officer in the Swiss Bank Corporation. Our graduates are active in Corporate Banking at Dresdner Bank Lateinamerika AG, the European Division of the Bank of New York in Frankfurt, and the Financial Services Division of Siemens AG. They have started out at the G7 Group after graduation. They are also performing research at the Advisory Board or private companies such as the Corporate Executive Board and Pyramid Research, and working in Immigration Law and International Policy Practice in private law firms.
Communications/Technology
MAGES graduates have been active in traditional media organizations such as CNN, the Voice of America, The International Herald Tribune, Deutsche Welle, the New Republic, Inside US Trade, the Los Angeles Times, and the Aufbau Verlag. They are also increasingly involved in new technologies. Whether as Senior Manager for Regulatory and Public Affairs at Deutsche Telekom, Inc.; Publications Manager at the Telecommunications Industry Alliance; or Market Manager, Next Generation Switching at Tellabs, our graduates are prospering in new areas.
We have graduates working in organizations such as AT&T and the Society and Technology Research Group at DaimlerChrysler. In addition, our graduates include the Director of Business/Government Relations at software giant SAP, a Credit Manager at Lucent Technologies and a Multimedia Editor at the Advisory Board.
