Richard Kuisel

Professor Emeritus, State University of New York, Stony Brook and a renowned scholar of modern French history, Professor Kuisel joined the Center in the summer of 2000 with a multi-year appointment as Adjunct Professor, having taught for thirty years at the State University of New York, Stony Brook. He has recently published articles in Diplomatic History and Yale French Studies.

In 1993 he was awarded the Gilbert Chinard Prize for the best scholarly book on the history of France and the Americas. The New York State Association of European Historians named his book Seducing the French: The Dilemma of Americanization as the best book on European History in 1995. Throughout his academic career Professor Kuisel has held affiliations with the German Marshall Fund, the Woodrow Wilson International Center, the Institute for French Studies at NYU and the Ecole des Hautes Etudes in Paris, and many other noted organizations. While at the Center he plans to continue his research and teach courses open to both graduate and undergraduate students.
