Michael Jurist SFS'07 Distinguished Alumni Round Table Series
In the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service
Georgetown University, Washington, DC
The Michael Jurist Distinguished Alumni Round Table (MJDART) Series, named in his memory, is designed to expose School of Foreign Service undergraduates to the rich and varied accomplishments of SFS alumni who return to campus in an informal, round table luncheon setting to speak about where their degree has taken them, their personal experiences, successes and challenges faced.
Each Round Table event is free and open to SFS undergraduate students on a limited basis. Sessions will generally
be 60-90 minutes in length. The Series was launched on April 2, 2008, with a discussion with Dr. Paula Dobriansky SFS'77, Undersecretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs. More than 20 students attended and enjoyed a lively conversation. The Series will continue with two
Round Table speaker events each semester commencing Fall 2008.
The MJDART series is made possible through the generosity of the family and friends of Michael Evan Jurist. Michael's sudden death in 2007 had a tremendous impact on the many lives he touched at Georgetown, in Canada and throughout the world.
Michael was about to embark on a new career at Deutsche Bank, New York following graduation in May 2007 from the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service on the Dean's List with a B.S. in Foreign Service (Major in International Politics - Foreign Policy). His successes were many, including an Advanced Certificate in European Studies, Member, Pi Delta Phi (National French Honor Society), Member Phi Alpha Theta (National History Honor Society) and Chair of Georgetown University Lecture Fund in his last year of his 2003-2007 involvement.
To focus only on Michael's academic accomplishments would not reveal his shining spirit; his love of tennis and travel were in fierce competition; his intellectual curiosity always led to asking why; his sense of adventure always asking why not; and a generosity of spirit that gave effortlessly and with grace to everyone he encountered along the short path that was his life. It is this inquisitiveness and sense of giving that his family hopes to perpetuate with this Round Table series.
