Improving Concentration

Can't stay focused on your tasks? Here are some suggestions that might help you to achieve your goals.

  1. Select a place for study that is free from distractions.
  2. Keep records of how long you concentrate by recording the time when you start to read or study and the time when your mind starts to wander. Try to increase this time each time you record.
  3. Take planned breaks.
  4. Decide exactly what you will try to accomplish when you begin your study.
  5. Study actively using a method that involves surveying before reading, organizing what you read, anticipating test questions and reciting/reviewing.
  6. Do large tasks one small task at a time. Don't let the task overwhelm you so that your energy is used in worrying rather than in doing.
  7. Use goal cards.
  8. Accept that you must do some unpleasant tasks.
  9. Reward yourself for studying.
  10. Remember: Improving your concentration skills will lessen your stress level!
