Tutor Guidelines

  1. Tutors in the Academic Resource Center or any other employee will not write paper for tutee, complete homework, write foreign language compositions, or provide any other materials a tutee may submit as his/her own work to an instructor/professor. Those found in violation of the above will be dismissed immediately and referred to the University for disciplinary action. Employees must refer any and al suspicions of academic integrity to their supervisors.
  2. Tutors are to maintain a professional relationship at all times with tutees. If you have concerns regarding your relationship with assigned tutees, please inform the Coordinator of Student Services immediately so that we may assign the tutee a new tutor.
  3. Tutors will provide written evaluations that detail the progress of their tutees.  Each form should offer specific details of the session, and contain the tutor’s and tutee’s first and last name.  Please be specific about what you went over and whether or not the student understood the material.  If tutees are not on time, please record how late they are to the session.  Tutees should come prepared to each meeting.  If they are not, you need to document it on the evaluation form.
  4. Timesheets are due on a weekly basis. If you have a home department outside of the Academic Resource Center, timesheets are due by 12pm on Tuesdays. If the Academic Resource Center is your home department, timesheets are due by 9am on Wednesday.  Time sheets must be turned in on time or payment for hours work will be delayed.
  5. Tutors are required to wait fifteen minutes for tutees.
  6. Tutors do not do their own homework during scheduled work hours unless authorized by the Coordinator of Student Services. Newspapers, magazines, etc., should not be read when working with tutees. Do not use cell phone and/or answer e-mail when working with tutees.
  7. You are expected to maintain appropriate and professional conduct; no feet on tables or chairs; no sleeping; no lying on the floor; no food; no walkmans, Ipods or radios.
  8. If you encounter a challenge of any sort, such a conflict with another tutor, a tutee, some aspect of the program outlined in this text or any text associated with the Academic Resource Center, please feel free to talk to us about it. Do not discuss the problem in the presence of the tutees. It is imperative that all challenges be discussed in private or remote areas away from tutees.
  9. Failure to comply with any or all of these guidelines may result in immediate termination.
