Student Health Insurance Mission and Responsibilities

Mission Statement

The Office of Student Health Insurance contributes to the establishment of personal development and is dedicated to the Catholic and Jesuit tradition of care for self and others.

Student Health Insurance fulfills this mission by arranging for most students to have adequate coverage so they can afford to obtain the care necessary to maintain proper health, thus minimizing disruptions to their educational endeavors. The requirement for students to maintain health insurance coverage also reduces real or perceived threats to the health of the University community at large.

Responsibilities

Student Health Insurance responsibilities include:

  • Negotiation of the student health plans with insurance agents;
  • Administration of the enrollment of student health insurance plans and overall Plan management; and,
  • Facilitation of claims concerns with the insurance company, if students are not satisfied that they have received the benefits to which they are entitled, after an appeal has been filed with the insurance company.
