Study Abroad Student Health Insurance Requirement

Georgetown University (GU) requires students enrolled in a study abroad program to be enrolled in the Study Abroad Student Health Insurance Plan arranged by CMI Insurance Worldwide, an insurance agency. In addition, most full-time students must be enrolled in another health insurance plan that covers medical expenses of at least $100,000 per illness and $100,000 per injury while they are in the United States.

These requirements enable:

• Students to obtain the necessary health care while abroad;
• Students to return to the United States with medical assistance when medically necessary;
• Students to obtain the necessary health care upon their return home; and enables,
• Georgetown University to facilitate emergency services abroad with one common company on the student's behalf when necessary.
