Haunted House 2007!
From Thursday, October 25th, through Saturday, October 27th, from 8-11pm. the Astronomical Society will be calling all the ghostly spirits haunting the grounds of the Observatory to make their presence known to us.  If you don't fear for your life, then perhaps you will choose to join us on the Haunted Observatory Tour!  The tour will begin outside the Cooling Facility and end in the Observatory and the price for your soul to enter will be $5 or get a group of 10 together for a group rate of $3/person.  Let's hope that you make it out alive this time...

Announcements!

10/2/07
Our trip to the Shenandoah is coming together nicely. We've got 9 people who are confirmed to go, and we hope to get two more cars as well so the 10 people on the waiting list can come. We'll be spending Friday night (Oct. 19) at a campsite near the entrance to the national park, and the night will be devoted to observing. The next morning we'll be taking a 6.5 mile day hike to the tallest waterfall in the park.

9/30/07
This Sunday marked our bi-annual Fall Open House at the Heyden Observatory, and we had a wonderful afternoon that included guided tours, a BBQ, and a special guest-appearance by the fabulous Saxatones. Visitors loved the Observatory and expressed interest in coming back for special events. If you missed this Open House, don't worry- there will be another one in the spring!

10/16/06
The two new telescopes have been assembled and let me say that they are amazing!  I still have to install a few extra features on the Schmidt-Cassegrain, such as the drive and the Intelliscope, but the Dobsonian is up and running.  We used it a couple of nights this weekend to view the Moon and some constellations and even managed to snap a few pictures, which can be found on the Astronomy 101 page!  Hopefully, we will have clear weather this week and will be able to use them!

Contact Info and New Members
If you have any comments, suggestions, or questions for the club, please don't hesitate to email us at rel24@georgetown.edu.  Don't forget to facebook us (search for GUAS and request membership!)  Also, sign up for our mailing list by sending an email to listproc@georgetown.edu  with the body of the message saying "subscribe guastronomy-l Yourfirstname Yourlastname".

New members are always welcome and I urge you to invite your friends to come to our meetings- even if they only want to come once or twice. The more people who know about our club and the historic building we meet in, the more likely GU is to preserve the Observatory in the way it deserves! I hope to see you at meetings and events this semester. It's looking like a great fall!
