What is the GSO?

        The Graduate Student Organization exists to provide a forum where graduate students can address the issues that concern them. In addition, the GSO provides for student travel to academic conferences, organizes social events, and provides TA/RA training and professional development workshops. All graduate students are members of the GSO.  As GSO members, graduate students at Georgetown are also members of the National Association of Graduate and Professional Students (NAGPS). The GSO is your organization. If you have an issue that you would like addressed, or if you are interested in becoming involved, please contact one of the GSO Officers or your department representative.

        One major function of the GSO has been to provide non-competitive travel grants. When you are interested in attending and/or presenting in a conference in your field of study, you can apply to the GSO for funds to cover certain costs. Our improved budget enables us to serve many more travel grant requests.

        Furthermore, we will continue to support other graduate student organizations and professional development within departments. New projects for the upcoming year include developing a volunteer graduate student force, studying the Georgetown stipend system, and sponsoring a graduate student research day during which graduate students across the campus present posters on their research to the University community.

How does the GSO relay important information to graduate students?

We will send out e-mails to graduate students through graddean@georgetown.edu. In addition, we will update this web site as frequent as possible. The graduate school calendar is also a good way to keep yourself updated for GSO information.
