Mobile Tutoring

Program Coordinators:
Joe Brennan
Francis Christian

Although it is one of HOPE's youngest programs, Mobile Tutoring has grown to include three tutoring opportunities for Georgetown students. One of our programs partner with Catholic Charities in downtown D.C. The other is part of CAG, the Community Action Group, affiliated with the Holy Comforter/St. Cyprian parish in southeast D.C. Unlike many other HOPE programs, MT is a semester-long commitment to visit one of our tutoring sites once a week and offer services for GED programs, literacy training, and other studies.

Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:00 - 9:00 PM
Catholic Charities

On Tuesday and Thursday evenings (from 6:00 -9:00 pm, including travel time), our groups travel by Metro to the Catholic Charities Downtown Family Center to assist with a GED course. Generally, Tuesdays are focused on Math and Thursdays on Writing, but the topics covered may vary depending on the students' needs. Most tutors are matched with an adult that he or she will work with throughout the semester, and others work with individuals in the classrooms.

Upcoming Project Dates:

September 19, 26
October 3, 10, 17, 24, 31
November 7, 14, 21, 28
December 5, 12

Tuesdays, 6:45 - 9:00 PM
Community Action Group

Jenni Zocca and Luis Capuchina

This group provides free counseling and rehabilitation for women dealing with substance abuse
in an environment that would allow them to live with their children. They need our help to obtain GED certification and become computer literate among other things. We offer them any kind of academic enrichment possible, which can be anything from the basics of reading and math to philosophical discussions. We also are able to work with the children, helping them with their homework or playing education games. We meet at the front gates at 6:45pm on Tuesdays (starting September 20th), travel to the centers, tutor from 7:30 to 8:30pm and are back on campus by 9:00 pm. While a weekly commitment is encouraged, it is not required. Meet at the Front Gates.

Please contact either Joe or Jenni and Luis (CAG) for more information or to sign up.
