About Hoyathon

Hoyathon is Georgetown University's annual 24 hour dance marathon. Coming into its seventh year, Hoyathon is the culmination of nine months of hard work and preparation. In March/April our dancers, sponsored by friends, relatives, and corporations, come together to cha-cha, boogie, and otherwise get down to raise money for various children’s charities in the Washington DC area.

Our Mission:

The goal of Hoyathon extends beyond simply raising money for children’s charities— the full mission is to unite the Georgetown campus and community to provide hope and inspiration to the children of Washington DC. Through determination, passion, and love of life, Hoyathon involves any and all persons with the desire to make a difference in a child’s life.

Our History

Hoyathon was born when Kevin Preis (COL '01) learned about Pennsylvania State University's dance marathon. Two years later, his vision became a reality and Hoyathon 2001 was a huge success.  Held in the Village C community room, with about 30 dedicated dancers and 50 superb staff volunteers, Hoyathon 2001 raised $5,000.

In 2002, Hoyathon reached even higher. Held in Sellinger Lounge, 30 dancers and over 100 volunteers came out and gave it their best and raised a grand total of about $18,000.

Hoyathon 2003 was an even more successful event with 50 dancers, almost 100 volunteers and over $21,000 raised for the children!

In 2005, three families from Children's Hospital attended Hoyathon and 62 dancers danced the night and day away to raise over $34, 400.

Most recently, the previous records were smashed as Hoyathon 2006 raised $39,101 for Children's National Medical Center and Georgetown University Hospital Pediatrics. Thanks to all of our dedicated dancers and staffers throughout the years!
