How many Jewish students are there on campus?
The Jewish population represents approximately twelve to fifteen percent of Georgetown's undergraduate students. Of the community, the majority come from either Reform or Conservative backgrounds. The recent addition of a Carbelach minion to the Jewish menu testifies to a growing Orthodox contingent on campus.

Can I get Kosher food?
Yes! Every week at Shabbat services the JSA provides a Kosher dinner free of charge. Although the University Dining services does not reliably provide Kosher options, the JSA House boasts a Kosher kitchen that is available for use by students throughout the week.

What kinds of religious services are done at Georgetown?
JSA runs one multi-denominational service followed by Shabbat dinner every week. JSA hosts High Holiday Services on campus in historic Gaston Hall. Jewish students also join together to celebrate many other Jewish holidays throughout the year. Check the EVENTS section of the website for a list of the celebrations held this year.

Is there a Rabbi on Campus?
Senior Jewish Chaplain Rabbi Harold S. White has served as an integral part of the campus and, especially, the Jewish community for almost forty years. Rabbi White was the first full time Rabbi at any Jesuit or Catholic University in the United States. In addition, the University employs two other Jewish Chaplains: Ilan Weinberger, a Chaplain in Residence on the main campus, and Michael Goldman, a Chaplain to the Law and Medical campuses.

How did your parents feel about you coming to a Jesuit University?
Check out this link to our Parents page --- it has reflections from several Georgetown parents on how they felt both while choosing a college and once their child attended Georgetown.
A Parent's Perspective

Is it easy to get involved with the JSA once I'm at Georgetown?
Very easy! From the Annual Orientation Bagel Brunch on, new Jewish students get the opportunity to be active members in the JSA. Students can attend services and activities, join committees, or just receive the Weekly E-mail. No matter how much or how little you wish to involve yourself, you will be an important part of the Jewish community at Georgetown.

Is there Jewish Greek life at Georgetown?
As a matter of the school's Jesuit tradition, Georgetown does not technically, officially have fraternities. That said, there is a Jewish Fraternity, AEPi, which is a very active group on campus and an official affiliate of Georgetown's Hillel. For more information on Georgetown's AEPi, visit their website by clicking here.
