THE REAL DEAL:

1) Hillel Alternative Break in Israel sign up!

For people who have already gone on BirthRight or a similar program, there is Hillel's Alternative Break in Israel: Service, Learning, Connection. Through ongoing hands-on service opportunities, students will use experiential learning to increase their knowledge about socio-economic and social justice issues in Israel. They will be inspired to return to their campuses as active citizens, engaging in the communities around them, challenging each other, and exploring social justice as a Jewish value.

Registration opens September 17 and closes October 17

5) PJC Lecture on Jewish Art by Professor Ori Soltes, Georgetown University. October 18 th, 12 pm, ICC 141

This lecture will consider how 'art' might be defined; the various ways in which 'Jewish' has been defined over the centuries; and what the juxtaposition of the two terms might yield as an effective and encompassing understanding of the phrase 'Jewish art'--from 6th-century synagogue mosaics to 16th century spice boxes to the sculpture of Jacques Lipschitz to the painting pf Mark Rothko.

6) OneVoice Rally, October 18 th, noon -3 pm, Capitol Hill

On October 18, OneVoice will engage and mobilize hundreds of thousands of Palestinians and Israelis in a "People's Summit". Ordinary citizens will speak out in unprecedented numbers against violent extremism and demand that their leaders negotiate and implement a two-state solution. Live music, speeches by dignitaries and celebrities, and statements from grassroots activists will draw Israelis and Palestinians out to the streets, where they will be linked via satellite to their counterparts across the region.

WASHINGTON, DC

October 18, 2007

Time: 12 noon - 3pm

Place: Capitol Hill, West Front Grassy Area

Also, the OneVoice people need help getting the word out about the rally at Georgetown. If you can help out with tabling (in Red Square) for it, contact rr243@georgetown.edu

7) Committeeeeeeees!

The Freshmen/JGAAP, Tzedek, and Social committees are still looking for members. Committees do the real work of JSA Ð planning events, recruiting, taking care of services and just generally making sure we stay awesome. If you would like to be part of any committee, send me an email (preferably to sjh45@georgetown.edu ) and I'll point you in the right direction. It is fun, guys. I promise.
