About
Capital Scholar
Introduction:
Capital Scholar is an online publication
produced by the Scholarship Committee of Georgetown University's
National Society of Collegiate Scholars chapter.
A message from the NSCS advisor (Spring 2005):
The future is not a result of choices among alternative paths
offered by the present, but a place that is created- created first
in the mind and will, created next in activity. The future is not
some place we are going to, but one we are creating.
John Schaar
So began the speech of John-Michael May, the
National Society of Collegiate Scholars national representative,
to new members at our 2004 induction. And so begins our inaugural
issue of “Capital Scholar”, because this online journal
for the publications of NSCS members was “created first in
the mind and will” some years ago, and was brought into reality
by the ”activity” of committed current members.
The role of this journal is to celebrate
intellectual creativity and to create community among member scholars.
NSCS members are a community of scholars on campus dedicated to
the passion of ideas, and engaging the ideas of others online will
ignite the creativity in all. A successful journal requires that
members submit the work they believe to be cutting edge and representative
of personal academic excellence.
As faculty sponsor and chapter advisor, I
welcome “Capital Scholar” to the intellectual world
at Georgetown, and I celebrate the efforts and will of its editors.
May the passion of your mind find a place here among its electronic
pages!
