Meet Our Director,
Dr. Rufus Jones

Rufus Jones, joining the faculty at Georgetown University this fall, will be
Assistant Professor of Music and Music Director of the Georgetown University
Orchestra.
Dr. Jones received his BA from the University of Texas at Austin, and a
Masters of Music, from the State University of New York-Binghamton, before
setting off on engagements across the United States and studies with Gustav
Meier, Louis Lane and Paul Vermel . After a stay as Assistant Conductor of the
Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, he returned to Texas to complete his Doctor of
Musical Arts, from Texas Tech University.
In addition to his orchestral conducting, performances on trombone and
euphonium and chamber music playing and coaching, his teaching and research
interests at Georgetown include the music of William Grant Still, Black
classical composers (1739-present), and Music of the African Diaspora.
