The Georgetown University Orchestra is a large ensemble devoted to the study and performance of orchestral music, including repetoire composed for full orchestra and chamber orchestra. Literature is selected from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern periods. Students learn bowing techniques, articulation and breathing techniques, tuning procedures, acoustics, rhythm and meter, line and direction, phrasing, and ensemble principles. Students explore why each work was created and what makes it worthy of performance. Sectional rehearsals also explore music theory principles such as the quality of chords, scales, basic ear-training, and cadences.
